political speeches after terror attacks

without comments

Believe me when I say we have a difficult time ahead of us. But if we are to be prepared for it, we must first shed our fear of it. I stand here, before you now, truthfully unafraid. Why? Because I believe something you do not? No, I stand here without fear because I remember. I remember that I am here not because of the path that lies before me but because of the path that lies behind me. I remember that for 100 years we have fought these machines. I remember that for 100 years they have sent their armies to destroy us, and after a century of war I remember that which matters most… We are still here! Today, let us send a message to that army. Tonight, let us shake this cave. Tonight, let us tremble these halls of earth, steel, and stone, let us be heard from red core to black sky. Tonight, let us make them remember, THIS IS ZION AND WE ARE NOT AFRAID!

i wonder why politicians in mumbai don’t give speeches like this. all they had to do was change zion to mumbai and machines to terrorists. would be effective reuse…

Why the polls may be biased

without comments

After the previous post, I started wondering why so many north indians still votes the way they did. It did seem that people like to agree a lot. In neither one of the polls conducted were there less than 50% agreeing with what was being said. Then I came across the Asch conformity experiments. The Asch conformity experiments, conducted in the 1950s, were a series of studies that demonstrated the power of conformity in groups. It works something like “peer pressure”

Subjects were told that they would be taking part in a vision test, along with a handful of people. The participants were then shown pictures, and individually asked to answer very simple and obvious questions. The catch was that everybody else in the room other than the subject was in on it, and they were were told to give obviously wrong answers. So would the subject go against the crowd, even when the crowd was clearly and retardedly wrong?

The Result: Questions the subjects were asked were like the puzzle shown here:

All they had to do was say which line on the right matched the one on the left. As you can see, the problem was not difficult at all. Yet, sadly, 32 percent of subjects would answer incorrectly if they saw that three others in the classroom gave the same wrong answer. Even when the line was plainly off by a few inches, it didn’t matter. One in three would follow the group.

WTF, North India?

with one comment

Flipping through today’s DNA, I came across this poll. 51% North Indians feel Raj Thackeray’s campaign is genuine. And another 52% feel that the MNS have no choice but to resort to violence. (hopefully you can still access the article here. Survey statistics here)

No wonder there is violence against them. Fucking braindeads…

As a bonus point, note how the numbers in the north indian rows add up. I’m just guessing it because of their experience with ballot stuffing, but I may be wrong (as usual)

Toy Yoda

Supposedly, she sued and settled for an undisclosed amount. And it was meant as an april fools joke. More details at ; http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/680871/posts . More at http://legalpublication.blogspot.com/2007/09/jodee-berry-ex-waitress-sues-hooters.html

On a similar note, when I was researching (?) the story I came across this on snopes : A woman sued a radio station when the Hummer she won in their contest turned out to be a toy rather than a full-sized vehicle. (http://www.snopes.com/business/deals/hummer.asp)

Halloween Costumes

without comments

Now that a few days after Halloween has passed, the controversies are here.

The first one is with Heidi Klum. It was a Goddess Kali lookalike costume for her. Klum, who was in India last year along with Seal, told reporters at her annual bash that the idea of dressing up like goddess Kali was that of her secretary.

The second one is regarding a schoolboy who was sent home for wearing a Jesus costume. The eighth-grade boy, Alex, who has shoulder-length brown hair, wore a white robe, a red sash, sandals, a fake beard and a crown of thorns. His mother says Alex was told he could keep the costume on if he removed the beard and crown of thorns, but he declined.

Now the thing is, the Heidi Klum thing has blown over. Hindu’s are protesting. Hindu leaders feel that Klum should make a public apology for posing as a sacred figure in a party. Indian-American community leader Rajan Zed said, “Goddess Kali is highly revered in Hinduism and she is meant to be worshipped in temples and not to be used in clubs for publicity stunts or thrown around loosely for dramatic effect.” So I am guessing it is a bad thing.

However, the parents of the schoolkid Alex are filing a lawsuit against the school. From http://able2know.org/topic/91783-1 :

A Christian legal group has sued a school district on behalf of a 10-year-old boy who claims his rights to religion and free speech were violated when he was not allowed to wear a Jesus costume during Halloween activities.

The principal, Patricia Whitmire, told the boy’s mother that the costume violated a policy prohibiting the promotion of religion, according to the lawsuit. Whitmire suggested that the fourth-grader, whose costume included a robe, identify himself as a Roman emperor, the suit states.
